(Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA. March 31. The Okarito Five Mile Beach Gold Dredging Company reports a return of 88oz of gold for 123 hours’ work. The “Gael” left Wellington ] as t night for Westport, Greymouth and Hokitika. She is due to-morrow right, 3nd is to sail o n Saturday for Okuru and Bruce Bay. A special meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council was held to-day to close the accounts for the year. Present: The Mayor (G. A. Perry, Esq.), T. W. Duff. D. J. Evans. J. King. E. W. Heenan, and Dr. Teichelmann. The Town Clerk presented accounts to date which were passed for payment. The Rate Committee’s report was adopted. Owing to a defective box drain in lower Stafford Street, it was resolved to continue the pipe drain along Tancred Street to Stafford Street to take the drainage, and have the levels take D through to Hampden Street, with a view to ult mate extension. The Town Clerk and Overseer wt-re authorised to attend to matters i n connection with the water supply while the water rare at the Lake is under alteration. Pipemaking to supply material for the Tancred Street drain i s to be put in hand.

The old Westland Rifles championship belt has been presented to the Hok tik a Volunteers for competition in rifle shooting. Presented by Mrs Briggs tn the Corns in 1910 it was won by Pvt. J. Williams. The corps disbanded in the following year, and the belt r- ma incd in Mr Williams’ possession. Mr Williams, at the last parade of the Volunteers presented it to Captain Bleach, who thanked him for his generous offer.

The wedding took place at the S*. John’s Church. Rium. on Monday. March 28th. of Elizabeth Rachel, fourth daughter of Mr and Mrs W. A. Cooper, of Rimu. and Herbert Matthew, eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. Owen, of Granity. The service, which was fully choral, was performed by Rev. Knights. Mrs E. Stoop presided at the organ. Th? bride, who entered the church on the arm of her brother, Mr G. A. Cooper, wore an ankle length frock of ivory satin bvaute. fully flared, the circular veil of embroidered tulle being held in place

by a coronet of orange blossoms, and she carried a beautiful shower bouquet. In attendance were two bridesmaids. Miss Ivy Adams, of Stillwater (chief), and Miss Alice Cooper (sister of the bride), the former wearing blue satin and the latter faw n celanese, both made on similar lines to that of the bride’s, wearing bandeaus to match, and carrying bouquets to tone. Miss Bonnie Bell and Roma Rasmussen, nieces of the bride made dainty little flower girls attired in pale pink and blue satin frocks respectively, with bandeau of tulle; also carrying a basket of sweet peas, carnations and fern. The bridegroom was attended by Mr J. Chandler, of Granity. as best man. and Mr Earle Owen, brother of the bridegroom, acted as groomsman. After the ceremony the reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents whore the usual t oasis were honoured. Last nighf the race ball was he'd at the Soldiers’ Hall, and over 300 attended. Tta* music was by the Black Hand and Gaiety and the Parryphone. The function was a success in every respect, the hall was finely decorated, and the supper was all that could be wished.
