FALSE TEETH STOLEN. (Per Press Association;. CHRISTCHURCH, March 15. Ida Wiggins, aged thirty-seven a domestic, employed by the North Canterbury Hospital Board, was to-day :.dm : tied to probation for six months by Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., on a charge of stealing on December 1, a el of artificial teeth valued at £3 ss, the property of the Hospital Board. The accused pleaded not guilty. Chief Detective Carroll said that the teeth were found at the house of a man named Downing. The accused admitted that she had left them there. The accused made a statement in which she said that she had obtained the teeth from an auction room. Later she said that the teeth had been given to her by someone, whose name she would not divulge. Wiggins said that she had been with the Hospital Board for twentyth ee years. HAMILTON BURGLAR. HAMILTON, March 16. Re erence to a recent attempt to blow the safe in the Borough Office was made in a case to-day, in which Charles Barclay Dewar, 57. pleaded not guilty to a breach of his probationary license. The police stated that Dewar was released from gaol on January 14. He admitted being in possession, with his brother, of an explosive, concealed iat Frankton. After the attempt »»n the offices, the accused’s brother found | that the explosive had disappeared, Ino explanation being given. The police submitted that accused was a convicted safe blower, in unlawful possession of explosives. Sentencing Dewar to two months’ imprisonment, Mr Wyvern Wilson said the position was ridiculously inverted in such cases. After a Judge sentenced a man, ne was released earlier bv the Prisons Board on certain conditions, with no particulars of the term if he did not fulfil tho conditions. Punishment was left to a Magistrate or Justices, who had to determine how long a man should serve. Dewar was fined £1 for breach of a prohibition order. WELLINGTON BURGKARY. WELLINGTON, March 16. On February 6, the residence of Dr Herbert, The Terrace, was broken into while Dr Herbert was away, and alothing, jewellery, camera and gramophone to the total value of £432 were stolen Frederick Fisher, 26, and Allen Edward Taylor 17, described as labourers, were to-day charged with the crime. They pleaded guilty and were committed for sentence In his evidence. Dr Herbert said { hat all the property had now been recovered.
