45,000 On Register (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, February 18. For the week ended February 15th. the Dominion unemployment figures were 45,071. This showed a decrease of 407. OBJECTION TO COUNTRY WORK FOB MARRIED MEN. AUCKLAND, February 18. The Labour Advisory Council, consisting of representatives of the Alliance of Labour, the Trades Council, and the District Council of Unemployed Workers Associations, which, latter is stated to represent 7000' relief workers, considered new proposals to senef married men to country work It is stated that married men will be sent from, their families, to work 14 hours weekly, at wages from 37/6 to £2 10/-. Resolutions were passed advising all unemployed men not to accept such work, requesting the support of the Alliance of Labour and tho Trades Council in this decision, and protesting against the threatened refusal of sustenance to those refusing country work. The Council considers the proposal a home-wrecking one, and that in framing it the Government has misjudged the temper of the workers. It urges the Government to review the schema CHEAPER TEACHING. That they could make <a greater success of a scheme for rationing work among unemployed teachers if the Education Department gave them a free hand, was the opinion expressed by .members of the Education Board to-day. It was reported that in this district work had been found during February for eighty-nine unemployed teachers, forty-six In probationary assistant vacancies caused through sickness or resignations.
