IN THE LEAD Early Irish Election Results (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn). LONDON, February 17. Out of the first 22 results, nine Republicans. seven Government* four Independents and two Labour candidates have been elected. They include President Cosgrave, Mr De Valera (Opposition Leader) and Mayor Wil■liani Archer Redmond (Government candidate for Waterford .City). (Received February 17 at 7 p.m.) LONDON, February 17.

(Received February 18 at 7 p.m.) LONDON, February 17. The polling in the Irish elections has been of record dimensions, and as a result the counting of the votes is likely to extend over three days. Some of the constituents have polled 90 per cent, of the enrolled electors. The elections are conducted under the system of proportional representation which ig hampering the counting. Among the candidates who have been elected are the following:—Mr Sean Lemass, who is Mr De Valera’s lieuten ant. and has bee n returned for South Dublin. North Dublin has re-elected Mr Mulcahy, the Minister of Local Government, while Carlow has returned Mr Fitzgerald (Minister of Defence) and Kilkenny has re-elected Mr Monoghan (Minister of Finance). The opening of the new Dail Eireann has bee n postponed until March 9th, in order to complete the Leitrim-Sligo election, the delay of which has been necessitated by the shooting of the candidate. Mr Reynolds. ANOTHER MINISTER ELECTED. LONDON, February 17. The latest advice as to the Irish Free State elections states that Mr Blythe, Minister of Finance, has been elected for County Monaghan. REPUBLICAN SUCCESSES. (Received February 18 at 9.28 p.m.) LONDON, February 18. In the Free State elections those elected include the following Republicans: For Longford, Mr James Gcoghegan; for Louth, Mr Frank Aiken. Balance of Power TO BE HELD BY LABOUR. (Ans. & N.Z. The Government needed twentythree seats to assure it of a working majority, for which it must now depend o n the vote of the Labour Party. The Labour Party opposes the repudiation of thp Treaty, but generally the Labour Party approves of Mr De Valera’s economic policy. Mr De Valera if he secures office, is unlikely to have an absolute majority in the Fianna Fail Party, and thus must accept the Labour Party ’s terms. OPPOSITION PAPER FINED £lOO. LONDON, February 17.
