METHODIST CONFERENCE. (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, February IS. The annual conference of the Methodist Church in New Zealand was opened to-day. The retiring President, Rev. E. D. Patehett, introduced the President-elect, Rev. M. A. Rugby Pratt, who, after the induction ceremony, delivered his inaugural address. Other officers elected were: Vice-Pres-ident, J. Voss; President for 1933, Rev. A. J. Seamer; Secretary for 1933, Rev. J. H. Haslam. MOTOR CYCLIST KILLED. — AUCKLAND, February 18. Kenneth Henry Rosier, aged 19, motor mechanic, received fatal injuries when he fell from a motor cycle at Avondale to-night. HOLMDALE UNDAMAGED. WELLINGTON, February 18. The coastal steamer “ Holmdale, ” which was ashore for seven hours on the beach at Castle cliff, near Wanganui on Tuesday, arrived at Wellington this morning from Picton, and she was inspected for damage by a diver. It- was reported that the vessel was not damaged through going on the beach DUNEDIN COUNCIL BY-ELECTION. DUNEDIN, February 18. A City Council by-election was held to-day for a seat rendered vacant by the death of Mr C. H. Hayward. Four candidates went to the poll, the following being the result: W. A. Scott (ex-Councillor) 4012: M. Silverstone (Labour) 3898; H. A. Hamer 325; C. M. Moss 203. The total number of electors on the roll is 32,541.
