Paid BY Worker” -■♦—■ TO COALITION DECEIVERS THE TRUTH—NOT HUMBUG ! F All Wages Still Above Old Award Rates (From the “ N.Z. Worker,’’ Wednesday, November 25th, 1931.) The Coalition propagandists have circulated a slip stating that “The New Zealand Worker” has cut the wages of its employees. Several Coalition candidates have trotted it out in the hope of catehing a vote or two. The actual facts are that although a slight reduction was made in the wages of the staff some time ago, the wages of all employees EXCEED THE AWARD RATES EIXED PRIOR TO THE REDUCTION BY THE ARBITRATION COURT. Under normal conditions the staff of “The Worker” works a 40-hour week only, instead of a 44-hour week in other printing establishments. No reduction is made from the weekly wages on account of the shorter week. This table shows the position: Old Rate Rale award after 10 now rates per eent. paid £ s. d. £ s. d. £ s. d. Linotype operator-mechanics .. 6 6 6 513 11 6 8 0 Machinists and compositors ..5 2 6 412 3 5 5 0 Girls 2 16 0 2 10 5 2 18 0 and 2 16 (I No male adult wages below £4 were in any way affected. NOTE.- -The rates piloted in the middle column above are those which the “N.Z. Worker” staff would now be receiving if the award rates less the ten per cent, cut were being paid them. Thus their pay is between 11 and 12 per cent, above the present award rate.
