HARIHARI NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) HARIHARI, November 16. The farmers in South Westland are at present very busy shearing, etc. With half the month gone by, this flat has experienced hardly a shower of rain since October. Two evenings this week the residents here are invited to be present at the Public Hall to hear, firstly, Mr J. W. Greenslade, the Coalition candidate* who is to address the electors here to-night (Tuesday), and then on Thursday night, Mr J. O’Brien, the Member for Westland, addresses the electors here. Mr O’Brien passed through here on Monday. “Jim” appears to be in great fettle. Large hauls of whitebait have been forwarded from here this month. Over 100 tins were railed to Christchurch last week. This week, so far, 50 tins have gone forward. Rev. Father O’Doherty, Parish Priest of Ross, who has been, absent from his parish through illness, paid a visit here for a couple of days last week.

Mr W. Wall, of Herepo, is at present lon a visit to Christchurch. A couple of car loads of residents from here attended the tennis ball at Ross last Friday night. Mr J. Hewer, senr., of Ross, paid a visit here at the week-end. Mr W. H. Stopforth, draper, of Hokitika, paid a visit here last week. Mr J. McLean, of the Duart Farm, has imported from the Canterbury district, half a dozen pedigree Shorthorn heifers, also a pedigree Shorthorn bull. Messrs Johnston and Ferguson have each imported two pedigree Jersey heifers, also a pedigree Jersey bull. They are from the Nelson district. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute will be held in the Public Hall on Wednesday. The Public Works Department are at present carrying out extensive protection work up “Johnny Walker’s” Creek, Little Wanganui. Mr W. Chisuell, of the Harihari Hotel, who has been on a visit to Bruce Bay for the past week, has returned home. Miss K. Adamson is at present on a visit to Christchurch. Mr Johnstone, of the Education Department, paid an official visit to the School here last week. Mr E. Haddock, of Christchurch, paid a visit here last week.
