ROYALTY ON SLEEPERS

Reduction Asked For (Special to “Argus.”) WELLINGTON, November 9. The Government was urged by Mr Jas. O’Brien in thq House to-day to assist the timber workers engaged in getting sleepers, telegraph poles, and | fencing material, by reducing or remitting the whole of royalty on such timber during the presenlt crisis, so as to enable these workers to make a living wage. Mr O’Brien pointed out that the royalty on this timber remains the samo although the price to Jthe worker has fallen considerably. Mr O ’Brien said that if the royalty were remitted it. would allow men to make a living, and allow farmers to purchase fencing material at a reduced rate. Mr Ransom said tha|t the question had not reached him, but he would inquire.
