At f the meeting of the Nelson Education Board, held at Nelson yesterday, the Ikamatua Committee wap I granted leave to change the purpose; of the subsidy. The Board decided to hold over conveying Waiuta Schoolchildren to Reefton for twelve months, the Architect to carry out urgent re- ( pairs. It was also decided to hold over ! the appointment of an Assistant Mis- ■ tress at Inangahua Junction. The death took place at. The deceased gentle-. man left many friends here who will learn of his demise with the deepest •regret. The President reported that he had interviewed members of the Reefton Domain Board re taking advantage of some of the unemployment schemes for improving the Strand reserve, and he was informed that the Board was not prepared to take advantage of .the un- ■ employment schemes as there was not suitable work required to be done. It was proposed by the President, seconded by Mr Discaciati and carried, that the Domain Board be requested to erec u public conveniences on the Strand Domain, and lay down a croquet lawn, and also to take steps to have the river front vested in the Board from Black’s Point to Smith Street. It was proposed by Mr Jas. Patterson, seconded by Mr G- J. Dick and carried, that the Minister of Railways be asked to place orders for coal with the Reefton mines, as the only stoppages at these mines are due to want of orders, and not to labour troubles, and the Railway Department should increase its reserves with the aid of Reefton coal. Mr J. Patterson moved, and Mr D. Panckhurst seconded and it was carried that the Minister of Finance be asked to have imposed on Australian coal imported into New Zealand a dumping duty, so as to give New Zealand a fair opportunity to compete in the New Zealand markets. It was proposed by Mr Dick, seconded by Mi- Discaciati and carried, haf the Railway Department be asked to run ji. train every Saturday night from Reefton to Inangahua Junction, leaving Reefton at 10 o’clock. Mr T. Dellaca proposed, Mr Duff seconded, and it was carried, that a letter be forwarded to the Minister in charge of Pos* and Telegraphs requesting that the Reefton Post and Telegraph Office be opened between 7 and 8 p.m., and that the £1 charge recently made for daily telephone toll accounts be discontinued. It was resolved that .the Inangahua County Council be asked for the usual donation of five guineas towards the Progress League funds. It was proposed by Mr Jas. Patterson., seconded by Mr W. J. Morris and carried, that tjiel Highways Council he asked to have the Buller Road from Reefton to the Railway Station tar-sealed, also Broadway from S’nnamon Street to Black’s Point Road, and that the Inangahua County Council be asked for their co-operation. It was proposed by Mr J. B. Discaciati, seconded by Mr W. J. Duff and carried, that a letter be sent to the Inangahua County Council asking that steps be taken to prevent the excessive speeding of motor cars through the streets of Reefton, and also to regulate the parking of cars i n front of theatres.
