I WESTLAND-GREY RACES Concluding Day HANDICAP TO GIGGLESWICK. QUANTUM SURPRISES. At the second day of the combined Westland-Grey race meeting at Omoto, there was only a fair attendance. The weather was fine, but the going was soft, and had a detrimental effect on the times recorded. The totalizator handled £4,9464 for the day, in comparison to £4,170 on the opening day, an increase of £7761. The chief event, the Winter Handicap, was won in convincing fashion by the favourite, Giggleswick. The opening event, the Novice Stakes, went to Vulpine, while Ringing Cheer, the winner of the Trial Race on the opening day, accounted for the Metropolitan Hack Handicap with apparent ease, and Full Crop, a winner on the first day, won again on Saturday. Rokena won the Mawhera Trot, returning a good dividend, whilst Tempo also paid a good price in winning the Kaiata Trot. Limited won the Flying Handicap from end to end. There were good dividends all day, the betting on almost every race being more evenly distributed than on the opening day, aud there were better fields.
