! OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT AND , TUESDAY. “STREET OF CHANCE.’’ i A GAMBLING SENSATION. Gambling is the theme of “The Street of Chance,” to be screened at the Opera House to-night and Tues- j I day. The setting is New York, where i . the slickest gamblers of the country operate, and where the gaming tables I are' attended by thrills and perils. Let a man be found playing queer tricks once and the gunmen are on his trail. The principal actor is William Powell, who appears as “Natural Davis,” supposedly a broker, but actually a professional gambler who sends men broke. Whenever he plays he wins and he commands respect from all because he always plays a straight game. To his wife, whom he has many times disappointed, he makes a promise to forsake gambling forever. They are about to leave the city when “Natural” learns that his younger brother Babe has arrived with his wife from San Francisco, for the purpose of himself taking up professional gambling. Babe being unaware that his brother is the fam- i ous “Natural Davis,” it is arranged that the newcomer shall play a skilful school at poker and lose all his money. By that means “Natural ”' hopes to cure his brother of the gambling in- I stinct. The game is played, but Babe. : contrary to expectations, wins. “Na- ’ tural” although sacrificing his wife’s) love because she misunderstands his < motives, returns to the game deter- ■ mined’to break his brother. “Natur- < ial” cheats.
