Easter Monday. £ (March 28th. 1932. a ' The Racing Conference notified f that the claim of the jockey, J. A. f Lewis, who was alleged to have been n injured whilst riding Silent at Reefton t on January Bth, 1930, had not been ree.ognised. c / The New Zealand Racing Conference v notified that the following licenses had i been granted to applicants in the West n Coast district: —Trainers: A. G. Wood, i;

.1. T. Cameron (conditional); Jockeys: J. A. Maloney. C. R. Menzies, conditional (permanent employee). R. Morris’s application for a jockey’s license was not granted. E. Moran’s three months conditional trainer’s license was not renewed, as he appeared to have no horses in training. The Secretary sahl that the Committee should support the Westland Racing Club’s application to hold their autumn race meeting at Riccarton on May 30th, to which Aushburton were now objecting. It had been intended to run a combined meeting with Ashburton on Mar 23rd, which had. however, been objected to by the Minister. Ashburton were now racing on their own track on May 23rd. It was decided to support the Westland Racing Club’s application to hold their meeting at Riccarton on Mav 30th. RACING. As Nukumai has been entered for jump : ng events at the Auckland meeting the last may not have been seen of him. He has been used as a. hunter and is likely to be a regular visit.)’ - to the tracks once more. The old fellow scorned to have had about enough when ho was put away, but ho is said to have come up very fresh and to look really well. He will at least be an interesting competitor if he is asked “o carry silk again. White Squall and Thermopylae, two others of Mr W. R. Kemball’s two year old within W. Hawthorne’s stable, rie being spoiled for *he early winter Both have shown promise this season in their few races, the former having been a winner, and they will be brought back into training in plenty of time tor the spring. Ti e only two-year-olds lot up by ihe Trentham trainer G. Jones, after the rer cent racing arc Movietone and Cape Gold, both of whom won a race during the season. These arc two of the best grown juvenile members of the team, and they are being accorded a spell now so that they can bo returned to their boxes in ample time for early spring meetings. Coolmint, who recently returned from Sydney, is being schooled over the small fences at Takanini. He is reported to he putting plenty of dash into his work, and his latest displays have been very promising. A Takanini report states that White Wings has made a splendid recovery from the injury she received at Avondale. and she is again in daily attendance on the track. The three-year-old filly Valrewa (Val-kyrian-TTinerewa). who showed a lot of speed in her races early this season, when trained by J. McLauchlan, has now joined IT. Benge’s team. Like all the Valkyrians she will probably improve with age. The four Australian youngsters purchased by J. T. Jamieson are now settled in their new quarters at Takanini. The colts by Brazen—Roseburn and Brazen —Warwhoop may be taken up soon, but the Magpie—Linquair and Splithorne—Pura youngsters will be allowed to run out for a considerable time. All four are attractive young thoroughbreds, and they make a total of fourteen rising two-year-olds under the care of Jamieson. A horse who appears to have improved considerably as the result of a few weeks’ spell is Arrowzone', the well-bred four-year-old chestnut son of Bisogne and the Hallowmas mare Haligan. Haligan is out of a full sister (Bonny Hel-

en) of Reremoana’s dam (Bonny Portland), and as both Haliga-n and Reremoana were by Hallowmas, it will be seen that Arrowzone is a very close relative of Reremoana. Arrowzone ic the first of his dam’s progeny, and though he has not done so well in his races as his track work has indicated he should, nevertheless, the way in which he beat Playground and Gustavo at the last Wellington Spring Meeting, and subsequently led all but Lucky Alice home in the second division of the Robinson Handicap at the Auckland Summer Meeting, is earnest of something still better to come. If all goes well, he will resume racing at the Otaki meeting. It is worth noting that the only other progeny of Haligan old enough to race has been the two-year-old View Halloo (by Hunting Song), who ran an excellent fourth at the last Wellington meeting, and subsequently won at Awapuni at his last start this season. The hurdler Monetize has changed hands. Mr 1.. Hodgson, of Hamilton, having purchased the Paper Money gelding from Mr W. 11. Mansell. Monetize will be trained by Ces. Lowe. Lowe is best known as a light harness mentor, but he prepared Mangani when that gelding won the Grand National Hurdles at Riccarton in 1929. A Trentham report states that Crenna Town will be schooled over the hurdles shortly. He is the stamp to do well at the game. Carinthia is booked for a trip to Auckland in June. He is in the Great Northern Hurdles, but his programme this season may include cross country racing, and he has an engagement in the Great Northern Steeplechase. A Trentham report states that Staghunter is being tried over the hurdles by J. McLaughlin. His education so far has shown him very apt. for ho is vorx- active and clever at his jumps.
