(Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, April 30. I At the Magistrate’s Court to-day iTraffic Inspector Sloss (Mr Park) proceeded against J. P. Coulson (Mr Elcock) on a charge of operating a motor lorry for the carriage of passengers without such motor lorry being licensed for the carriage of passengers or for the carriage of goods and passengers. The facts were admitted, the question asked for being a ruling on the Act on the particular section. The Inspector said Coulson said an arrangement made was for payment by workmen for carrying them to and from work, not payment by the Company employing them. Coulson had a license for carrying goods, but not for passengers. His Worship held that under the regulations Coulson was not liable to take out a license for passengers, as he was only carrying workmen to and from work for one •ompany. The charge would be dismissad. The following players will represent the Rival Club in their match with Excelsiors on Cass Square on Saturday:— Carter, Pfahlert, Stopforth, Mclntosh, Webster, Houston, Fitzgibbons, Schist, Pierson. The two bridesmaids, Miss Alva Mclntosh and Miss Alethea Bennett (sister of the bridegroom) wore ankle length frocks of palp pink georgette and net ap- I pliqued in silver and pale pink capelin.• I hats trimmed with ribbon velvet. The flower girl, Gwynne Appleton (niece • f the bride) wore a dainty h’gh waist>d frock of pale pink georgette, terminating in tiny frills with silver circles in her head. The bridegroom was sup ported by his brother, Mr Ben Bennett, as best man, and Mr Jack Mclntosh junr. as groomsman. Miss M. Davies played the Wedding March. A reception was held at the Soldiers’ Hall, there being 160 guests, and toasts being proposed by Rev. Knights, Messrs G. A. Perry (Mayor), B. Bennett, J. A. Murdoch, and R. Appleton, the Kridagioom and Messrs D. J. Evans, and O. W. East wood responding. The happy ouple later left on their honeymoon en route to Christchurch and the North , Island, the bride wearing a navy French • ensemble suit relieved with red, and carrying a skunk fur. The happy con- j pie were the recipients of a very largo number of handsome and valuable pres- | ents. In the evening a large number, of friends were entertained at a social dance in the Soldiers’ Hall by Mr Evans and family. The following debt cases were decided by default in plaintiff’s favour at the Court to-day:— Hallenstein Bros. (Mr Elcock) v. E. Henham, claim £1 12/6 and costs; same v. F. Saxon senr., claim £3/19/11 and costs 23/6; same v. ( R. Wakelin, claim £1 and costs 10/-. | The police charged Laurie George (Air Elcock) with allowing two head of cat- 1 tie to wander on the railway line near | Arahura and he was fined 5/- and costs’ 25/-. On a charge of a breach of a | ma : ntenanee order, F. West v. John, West, Mr Murdoch appeared for appli-i cant. An order was made for payment I of £3 per month off arrears, in default ( one month’s imprisonment. Owing tot |the wrong owner being sued, a charge against T. Staines of allowing two cat- ’ tie to wander was dismissed. Fines were imposed on AL Connelly for allowing cattle to wander, with costs , amounting to £l/10/-. Six persons found after hours on licensed premises were i convicted and penalised. Tn one adjourned case, where there was question of identification of defendants from a distance by Sergeant King, the latter put Jin a recent decision ,and Mr Murdoch (for defendants addressed the KJourt. jllis Worship convicted both defendants.
