WAITANGI OIL BORE. (Per Press Association). GISBORNE. January 27. The Taranaki (N.Z.) Oil Fields report issued for the week ended 21th January, 1931. stated: Waitangi No. 1 well was drilled fro'fn 560 feet to 930 feet, of which 256 feet was cored. From 765 to 785 feet was all cored, being in limey, close-grained grey sandst(,‘ae. and gave a fairly good show of inflammable gas and a trace oil: but otherwise was all firm grey and brown shale. FIRE IN POWER BOARD STORE. (Per Press Association.) TE AWAMUTU, January 27. A fire broke out in the store of the Te Awamutu Electric Power Board at 7.30 o’clock this evening. Dense volumes of smoke were sent up with surprising suddenness. The tire brigade, however, quickly suppressed the outbreak. which was located in a transformer. which was being tried out.
