(From Our Own Correspondent). HOKITIKA, October 22. As in most other localities, the view . - of the solar eclipse hero this morning , was very limited. TJie phenomenon I’ was to be observed only for brief mo- , ments between the passing clouds. About 8.30 after heavy rain previously, the sun eamc into view, and it was . possible to observe the first touch of |. the moon’s shadow on its face, but clouds continued to pass thereafter, : and the spectacle as it grew was spoil- > cd. A sudden hail shower blotted out everything, and the only effect was the comparative lack of light, the hail whitening the ground. The latter stage of the eclipse was the better from an observation viewpoint.
