AERO CLUB
Recognised in Wairarapa MASTEKTON, May 8. In reply to a deputation, which placed the claims of the Wairarapa * Aero Club before him at Wellington | to-day, the Minister of Defence, Hon. I Air Cobbe, agreed to grant the Club j recognition as an independent unit vn- } titled to the State financial and other a assistance granted to clubs so recog- ' nised. The members of the deputation I stressed importance of Wairarapa I from an aviation point of view. The ( Club has firmly established, as might be seen from its membership, the number of trainees appearing under its auspices, the •engagement of a capable pilot, the acquisition of a plane, and ] the measures taken to secure the es- '< tablishment of landing ground. The i Club was no mushroom growth, but was solidly e.-tablished. It avas sub- I mitted that it was only fair and just that a district as important as Wairarapa should be accorded the recognition and assistance that had already been accorded to oth< r districts. 'I he Alinister said he had not real'. <‘d that the Club was in such a. strong position. A very eoiiA'incing case had been made out. He agreed to grant the Club's recognition as an independent unit. j When the Alinister was approached on a previous occasion, he suggested the Club’s amalgamation with tho AVellington Club.
