HOKITIKA NOTES.

(Cur Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, February 4. The public excursion from the Tuan gahua district to Hokitika takes place to-morrow (Wednesday). A rink team from the Reef ton Bow’ ing Club is coming down, and will meet a rink from the local club at 2 p.m. The Moa sailed to-day at 2 p.m. with a cargo of 67,000 feet of sawn timber for Wellington. Mr R. Ogg, of the Ohaupo (Auckland) P. and T. staff, accompanied by Mrs Ogg and daughter, is on a visit to relatives here. In connection with the annual schools excursion, which this year wi-‘l ho held at Reefton racecourse on February 12th Ross has notified the local committee that it is not taking part, in this year’s excursion. A big influx is expected for the sawmi Hers’ picnic here towards the end of this month.

The Dental Officer reported 121 operations for the mouth, and 45 attendances. The chairman reported on an interview with Mr Bien, Inspector of Dental Clinics, and it was resolved to write to the Dental Division re the formation of a Clinic ’ Committoe and to obtain the aid of a temporary dental assistant. Kanieri School Committee forwarded a donation of £2 towards the dental clinic. The appointment of Mr Cyril G. M. Warren (Hawke’s Bay) as first llHsistant at Hokitika School was notified. Mr G. Partridge tendered his resignation as Rector, he having been appointed a School Inspector for Wanganui district. On the motion of Mcs-ts Richards and Armstrong, the resignation was accepted with extreme regret. All the members paid a tribute to the work of Mr Partridge, who returned thanks. He reported the attendance yesterday was: Primary 30;., secondary 106, which should assure the school retaining its present status. Mr Edwards has been appointed to relieve until Mr Williamson’s successor takes no duty. Mr Anderson had comrnene, od as commercial mriater. an and T. W. Duff. Motions of sympathy wore passed in relation to the. deaths; of Mr E. A. Wells, a late member, and Matron Lloyd. Mr Jeffries moved that the Board have a suitable tablet placed in position at the hospital to the memory of Matron Lloyd. This was seconded by Mi Keenan, and carried. The SurgeonSupcrintoiidenl reported: Patients on December 31st, ,37; admitted during January 45; total treated 82, discharged cured 43, relieved 1 died 2, remaining in hospital on January 31st, 36: patients treated two months or over, 13. Sister Peters tendered her resignation, which was accepted with regret, and Nurse Goodall appointed to the vacancy. Dr Bruce Baird tendered fiis resignation as Medical Superintendent of Westland Hospital, to take effect from March 31st. Mr Jeffries moved that the resignation be accepted with deep regret, and paid a tribute to the services rendered by Dr Baird during the past ten years. Ho had at all times done good, work, giving every satisfaction to the Board. The Chairman seconded the motion, endorsing the appreciative references of the mover. MessTs Duff, Davidson, Meharry and lot.her members followed in a laudatory strain and the motion was agreed to. Dr Allan Hopkins of Hamilton, applied for the position of Surgeon Superintendent, and on the chairman’s motion he. was appointed. It was resolved that applications for the position of Matron bo invited, and that, a special meeting of the committee be held to consider same. The Treasurer's statement showed receipts' amounting to £1062 10s fid, expenditure £1066 17s, credit, balance £l2ll 12s. A statement was read showing that produce had been raised at the hospital grounds last month to the value of £9l 7s lOd. This was considered satisfactory, and Mr Davidson, who was responsible for the undertaking, was accorded a motion of appreciation. Accounts amounting to £574 9s were passed for payment. The Town Clerk, Knmara, wrote asking the Board to arrange for the transport of eases in a properly equipped ambulance. It was resolved to reply pointing out the present arrangements, and

inquiring what amount would be given towards the provision of a motor ambulance. Mr Turley Secretary, Timber Workers’ Union, wrote in reference to further members admitted in connection with the Union’s hos’pital scheme. The Sub-Committee on the Maternity Home reported on very stacisfactory conditions at the present time. The Clerk (Mr Bruce) applied for his annual holiday. whiph was granted.
