ASHBURTON April 26. Tributes to pioneers wi.tre paid at a function held at Meth ven to-day to celebrate the jubilee of Mount Huft, in the Methven District Therj» were eighty-four early settlers among the 250 guests at a banquet, the attendance including Sir Wm. Nosworthy, ajnd also Hon, W. Forbes representing the Government. Mr F. Ruddenklan, Chairman of Mount Hutt Road Board, presided. Many speakers referred to hardships faced by the pione *rs and the difficulties overcome by them in the days when the plains were given over to tussock, fern and weka.
