Ihe Southern Cross left Bulloo at 7-45 this morning for Sydney. She encountered fierce dust storms and a cold biting head wind. The plane landed at 1.40 this' afternoon at Narrow Mine, three hundred ni.les -iorth-west cf Sydney, where she ifi remaining till to-morrow. The local population, and also crowds from adjoining centres, gave the crew a cordial welcome. Smith and Ulm were /Wearing their flying uniforms, 4nd McWilliams and Litchfield wore All of them were decked in hats. Their other clothing was left at Wyndham. The air liner Canberra arrived at Longreach yes erday, and reaches Bourke, in New South Wales, to-mor-row afternoon. The Air Board has authorised the removal of the Kookaburra aeroplane, which is Anderson’s property, to Sydney. The pack-horse party that is trekking to the Kookaburra consists of I three whites and several aboriginals, who expect to reach the scene to-night. A complaint comes from Perth that the Reparations Department has already stopped Mrs Hitchcock’s pension.’ The Prime Minister, who is inquiring. declares that he understands-; that she is in needy circumstances, and he will see that no injustice is done to her. The Federal Cabinet met to-day at Canberra, and considered arrangements for an independent inquiry into the Southern Cross and the Kookaburra’s forced landings.
