HOKITIKA NOTES.

(From Our Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, April 17. Nominations for the municipal elec tions. and., also fo r three seats each on the Hospital and Harbour Boards, close to-tnorrow (Thursday) at the office of the Town Clerk. In connection with the County electtions, Messrs T. O'Neil (Vice-Presi-dent of-the Westland Farmers’ Union, Kokatahi) and M. Keenan (Woodstock) -arc likely to offer themselves for seats in the Central Biding in addition to two of the sitting members, Messrs Wells (at present Chair man) and Chesterman. There will be three 'to-be elected. Mr Morel, a former representative, has left the district, and will not be a candidate. The death of Mr Ernest L. Millner (“Brownie”) took place at the Westland Hospital yesterday at one o’clock, where he had been an inmate for the past 17 years. The deceased was a native of Hau Hau, and was 52 years of age. He was unmarried. He suffered from heart disease. The deceased was very popular. He leaves a sister, Mrs Kerr, of Fitzherbert Street, and two brothers, Mr James Millner, of Hokitika, and Mr William Millner, •f Kaniori. The funeral takes place to-morrow afternoon* The annual Chrysanthemum Show takes place on Wednesday, May Ist, in the Soldiers’ Hall. This event is always looked forward to by flower fanciers, and the present venture promises to eclipse any of its predecessors. In addition to the flower show, there will be a produce, cake and sweet stall, nd there should be plenty to attract the eye. of the customer. The object of the show is a wor.hy one, and should be well patronised. The funeral of the late Mrs E. A Wells of Woodstock took place yester day afternoon, and the large attend anee of mourners testified t o the high esteem in which the deceased was held. There were about 30 ears in the cori tege. The services at St Andrew’s Church, Kanieri, and also at the graveside. were impressively conducted by i the Rev Nelson Wright.
