INCREASE IN NEW ZEALAND. WELINGTON, April 16. Sir J. Ward, speaking at the local Automobile Club’s social, gave some figures illustrating the development of the motor-car in New Zealand. The total registrations on March 31. he said, were in the North Island and 196.597 in the South. The number of new registrations in the last twelve months was 27,674. Imports of motor spirit had doubled ia ten years, and the vehicles had increased from 3094 to 18,787, besides motor cycles, which had increased from 1122 to 3558. In passenger and freight services alone last Novembei 2215 vehicles were used, employing 2950 persons, and carrying 1 982,220 passengers and 84,-886 tons of goods. Sir J. Ward also mentioned that the Highways Board expenditure had increased from £372, 267 in 1925 to nearly two millions last year. It now had a declared mileage of 10.139.
