DYSENTERY EPIDEMIC
Among Maoris SPREADS TO WAIAPU. GISBORNE, April 16. The Inspector of Health, Mr Holder, has been notified of an outbreak ef dysentery amongst the Maoris i> the Waiapu District. This is the result, it is believed* of rhe disease being brought from tbo Ngahuawahia district, where recently a big Hui was held. The first victim in Waiapu was Makarini Ngata, the sou of Sir Api rana Nga f a, M.P., who succumbed last week. Two other eases are now reported in the district. They are stated to be of a similar nature to that of ed, one of the patients being Lady Ngata, who, worn out by the terrible trial of nursing her late son to the end also became afflicted, and she now lies at her home at Waiomatatini in a critical state.
