NOTES ON THE RACING. (By “Original.”) (Special to Argus.) CHRISTCHURCH, February Beautiful weather prevailed for the one day summer meeting of the Metropolitan Trotting Club. The attendance was not up to expectations. The track was in good order, though at times dusty. Nelson Ata and Western Vcjyage carried heavy support for the opening event* the Spreydon (Handldap. Nelson Ata and Katute failed to strikqe a gait and completely settled their chances. Commander Bingen led over the first quarter, but then broke, and Lady Fan taking charge, was not afterwards headed. beating Nelson Boy by a length, with Western Voyage three-quarters of a length further away, with Duke Bingen fourth. Tomkinson threw second money away through over-driving Western Vovagcwhen he had Nelson Boy beaten. Bing Boy and Royal Serene failed to leave the mark in the Linwood Handicap, and were never seen afterwards. Okoura, with a heavily backed one in Chef, a good third, and Rufine right up fourth. Logan Park and Western King carried heavy investments in . the Midsummer Handicap, but after Talent and Audacious had carted the field along till they turned for home, Logan Park shot into the lead, but tired over the Jas.t hundred yards, and Quality and Bonny Logan beat him, with Western King, who was boring out all the way, fourth. Jean MeElwyn carried heavy support in the Papanui Handicap, but she could never quite reach the front, Kotouku Jack made all the running till just below' the -distance, where hefaded out, and High Jink,s getting a cLr*n run through on the rails, won nicely from Lingfield, who was well pLaced all the way, while Omaha, who finished very fast, cut Jean MeElwyn out of third money.

Bonnie Belmont carried big money in the Cashmere Handicap, but he went very unsteadily and aftej; being prominent over a good part of the journey, he retired when Trampfast shot past him going along the back the last time. Lee Todd plugged on, and just beat Engagement for secondwith Duke Bingen fourth. The Choysa-Grand Light bracket, with Lindbergh and John Noble, carried heavy support in th?, Juvenile, and they had the race to themselves. After Choysa and John Noble had ine.de alb the /running, Lindbtergh joined in near the distance, and in rhe run home, I indbergh beat Choys.i by a length, with John Noble right up Hiird, and Grand Light fourth. Travis Axworthy was backed as a racecourse certainty for the Liverpool Handicap. Afsor Dilnon had mi de the running till the home turn, the favourite took charge, and looked to ’■.n? it in safe keeping, when Royal Serene shot up on the outside and beat him nicely, with Roddy a gcod thirl. The Pageant-Prince Pointer bracket, with Dundas Boy, were made the med:um of a plunge for the concluding event, the Craven Handicap. Dundas Bov refused to leave, and Pageant was only prominent for two Glenelg quickly shot to the front, and nacing in great style, was never headmi. beating Jolly Chimes (who should have won). by about a length, with Tilent right up third, and then Aulacious. Jolly Chimes jigged on the mark, and seemed hopelessly out of but finishing with a great run, just fa’led to reach Glenelg. Taranaki J.C. Meeting. VERTIGERN AND PAGANELLI WIN.
