SERIOUS FIRES.

In N.S. Wales. SYDNEY, February 10. Three hundred men have been rendered idle by a big fire at Foster House, in the city. The whole six' floors were ablaze when the brigades arrived. The firemen concentrated on saving the surrounding buildings in the congested area. The damage is estimated at £50,000.

The fire damage is estimated at sixty thousand pounds. The stocks consisted largely of furs and leather goods. Smoke helmets had to be used at a fire among a large quantity of tyres in the basement of Brunner’s building. Cuba Streep last night. Another lead was taken from Cuba Street, but it was a considerable time before the seat of the flames could be reached, and four hours elapsed before the outbreak was completely suppressed. The building, of brick, is owned by the Mary Kennedy estate. Th e basement and bottom floor were occupied by E. W. Pidgeon and Coy, who had been in occupation only a few days. Others in the building are Edison Depot Phonographs, whose stock was damaged by heat and smoke; Robert Molcolm, Ltd, and A. A. Corrigan and Coy, indent merchants and agents, on the first floor, who suffered similar' damage. Fluenzol Lhd’s, on the top floor, was damaged by smoke.
