Successful Meeting. J. BANNISTER IN SPLENDID FORM. Ideal weather favoured the annual meeting of the Paroa Spor’a Club, held at Sneddon’s Park on Saturday, and some four hundred people attended the gathering, which proved to be a success from every viewpoint. The chopping and sawing was of a high standard. while the running events attracted keen interest, and resulted in every heat and final being productive of a sequence of close finishes, which reflected great credit on the handicapper, Mr E. Perkins. .... .

The Club’s officials handled the programme in a very capable manner, the result being that each event was got’ off well to- time, and everything wn*nts smoothly throughout. A special Word of praise. is due to the President (Mr J. N. Lansen) and the Joint Secretaries, Messrs K H. Allen and G. Ha-y-J wood, whose courtesy to inquirers andattention to detail was fully appreciated by all those who came into con tact with them. The attention which the other Club officials gave to theirrespective dutjes resulted in meeting being acclaimed by all present as among the- most interesting and well conducted yet held by ihe popular Paroa Club. J. Bannister was in splendid form and won the upright chop, the underhand chop, and partnered by Higgins; the open saw. Each of his performances was full of merit, and being the virtual scratch man, his successes, were very popular with the public. Robim won the Gladstone open handicap in convincing fashion, while A. Fong won the South Beach handicap by a clear yard from R. Jones, whose consistent running in the heats and finals resulted in him being runner-up in both events.

Mr T. Pettit, of the Plumb Axe Co Australia, was present at the gathering, and assisted the club and the. competing axemen by judging the chops and imparting much valuable advice ‘o the choppers. » • Mr J. O’Brien, M.P., Patron of the Club, presented the two Plumb axes donated by the Plumb Axe Co. both won by J. Bannister, and to the same axeman he also presented the Club’s gold medals which went with the upright and underhand chops.
