BRITAIN’S POOR

National Appeal FOR FOOD. BOOTS AND CLOTHES. (Received December 16 at 5.5 p.mA LONDON. December 15. As the result of to-day’s Cabinet meeting, it is practically certain that the Government’s scheme to assist the unemployed miners will consist of a Treasury donation to the Lord Mayor’s fund for food, boots and clothing. These file Government regard as the most pressing need. The Government, however, fears that this announceifent will possibly cause a slackening of private donations for the unemployed, which now amounts to £l4 500. The Government hopes, therefore, that a national organised appeal will aim at raising half a million sterling, in which event the Government will be prepared to add half a million.
