OBITUARY.

JAMES HAYDEN. The death occurred at his residence Rutherglen. on Saturday afternoon, af ter a lengthy ilkie s. of Mr .lames Hayden. one of the oldest and best known residents of the West Coast. Born 73 years ago at St Kevern. Cornwall, th P late Mr Hayden came to Australia by the ship Somerset fifty years ago. Afte r spending some months thero f with relatives, he came to Ruthcrglen, where he resided until his death. De-/ ceased was a member of a well known Cornish party of gold-miners who carried out operations at Rutherglen. until he purchased the carrying business of the late Mr Edwin Coumbe. which business he carried on until two years ago. when failing health caused him to retire. For a great number of years the deceased was Chairman of the Paroa School Committee, and was an enthusiastic supporter of any move menf in connection with the welfare of the district. He was also one of the oldest members of the Foresters Lodge. The late Mr Hayden was of a genial disposition, which endeared him to everyone he came in contact with, and was an especial favourite with the children, who daily inquired as to his health. Besides his widow, four daughters, Mesdames Ke vein (East Eyreton). Bromley (Rutherglen). Mi ses Lily and Nellie (Ruther glen), and two sons. Samuel (P. and T. Department. Grpymouth) and Lewis (Rutherglen) are left to mourn his loss. Th e funeral will leave Ruther glen at 2 p.m. to-day for Karoro Cemetery.
