CHILDREN’S SHOW.

Splendid Sports Programme. UNSETTLED WEATHER AHEWATTENDANCE. The first children’s A. and P. Show, which was opened at Victoria Park uii Ist. instf, 'Vhen due to unfavourable weather conditions, th/f sports programme had to be postponed, was iigiilir unfortunate in experiencing unsettled weather for the function, but ueviut the less managed to complete the programme between, the showers that frequently fell on Saturday. The public attendance was only fair, but that did not dampen the 1 ntnusiuam and an excellent day’s sport was presented. The exhibits were again on ' view ,and wen ■ much. aamir< d by those who* inspected them. The sports were under the control of Bro. Tarcisius (Marist), Mr J. Hutten (Technical) and Mr 8. Lorking (Grey Main), who v\Lre also eisted by teachers. Every item on the programme (excepting chasing tin greasy pig) was curried out. It was a splendidly munagf d meeting, each event being run strictlv tc. the racing was most the girls’ races being esprerany A ,vpu.«... and git later enthusiasm wap evinevu in thl ir events than in the hoys’: L Wilson (Grey Technical) put up a meritorious perfonnand i winning tin 100, £2O, 440, and 880 yards open events, and also competf ,d in the winning team of the open relay. There was m lamentable lack of interest taken by the parents, very few attending on either day, and in voew of the fact that the w’ork end red by ail the :om.petiors was worhty of every encourageni'Tit liy parents and the general public, it is regretable that the weather conditions were ,such as tw hamper tli/i public attendance.

The thanks of the A and P. Association are due to Mrs E. M. Wray who organised tlw concert recently held, to assist in carrying through tk Exhibition ,and who also was the prime mover in the show itself. Many ladies assisted in this direction, but without the co-c|peration of the 0-.achei\s and the pupils, the show could not possibly have been the hug< success (from apt exhibition an I educational point of view) that- it was. The Committers however, are in no way disheartened, and next y«ai should see a wonderful function; teaclV rs and the pupils themselves this opinion, and as the success must depend upc/a the last named, it ?s pleasing to hear tH'so v.-ews expressed, especially when the atti/ndances t'his year were so poor.

A special word of hanks is due to the Blackball Pipe Band, which attended gratis on occasions to march through the town and then proceed fo tlvA Park, and enliven proceedings with an appreciative programme of beoitch music.
