REEFTON NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, November 3. Mr D. A. Abbie, of the Greymouth Branch of th », National Bank of New Zealand, is at present relieving at Reefton Branch. Mr W. Mori, Greymouth, is at present on ,a* visit to his parents in Re ’fton. Miss M. Hill, Invercargill, is at present on a holiday visit to her mother, Mrs Hill, Black's Point. Captain Ford, Westport, accompanied by Mrs Ford, are spending a holiday in Reefton as the guests of Mr James Murdoch, Railway Station. MessrsjS. Magee and A. Eager left for Christchurch nroruing to- attend the Cup meeting. RUGBY BAJjL. Th?, annual Rugby Ball took place at the''*Theatre Royal last evening, there being a large number present. Visitors from tn'r surrounding district, and Blackball and Westport were alst> pi; sent. Tlie hall was artistically decorated with coloured streamers which took the form of a tent, while cm the walls were many mirrors aud photos -of past and present football t ains, and clubs’ colours many and varied also lined the sides '.•f the walls. The music, was excellently supplied by Mrs Hewison (piano), Miss Coburn, of Grey mouth (violin and mandoline), Mr Wells (Christchurch, corn.it) and Mr Stan Ivey, Blackball, (side drums and effects). Extras were played by Miss D. Farrell and Mr Rutherfurd Don. Mr W. Hunt carried out the duties of M.C. in an efficient manner. The lucky ‘on>step was won ~by Miss’ Flaunigjin aud* Mr W. Mon.

Mr J. Discaciate, President, in a short speech thanked the public for turning out- in such large and the- support given to Rugby during the seas’on, stating that this splendid function had brought a most successful season to a cilose. He also thaiiKed the willing members of the Ladies’ Committee, the press, -and all who had assisted, also Mr Wells of Christchurch. who had assisted gratis with the orchestra. He then proceeded to present the cups,etc., won during the year as follows: —Stallard Cup to Cronadun s.niors, E. Patterson captain, also McMahon Cup. McGillicuddy Cap to Waratah seniors, W. Hunt, captain. , Discaciate Cup to Waratah juniors also Juni'or Banner to W. Hunt in absence of the junior captain. Both recipients returned thanks to the President. A serious accident happened to Mr Charles Fanselow at Mr L. Me Vicar’s farm, Upper Grey Valley, about midday on Thursday last. Engaged in bush-falling he had just put a scarf into a tree split and one large piece fell and struck him on one arm knocking him to the ground and seriously fracturing the arm. His mate at once went. ; to his assistance and after giving him first aid went to the Alexander mine, some six miles disant, for assistance.
