SHOOTING OF OBREGON.
Accused’s Version. ALLEGES RELIGIOUS OBJECT. (Received November 4 at 5.5 p.m.) VANCOUVER, November 3. When asked to plead, Toral said that iis idea was io sacrifice his own life nd General Obregon’s, which would iring to a c'.imax the religious quesion in Mexico, and no other bloodhed would occur. “1 acted for the rood of all Catholics,” he declared. ‘.I thought of leaving my wife and atherloss children, but, on the other 'and, 1 thought also of the innumc’ble widows and orphans that have •ecu left throughout the country, and !ue to the conditions which my ack light change. Those who live by the word die by the sword!” He insist'd fervently that he was referring to )bregon. He also said that there has existed t o’rpat persecution of the Catholic ’hurch in Mexico. If the general iniiffc cnc(‘ continued, the cause of reigion would be lost in Mexico, adding. ‘ And to bring things to a head, I doided to shoot Obregon.”
