ACCIDENTS
TERRIBLE INJURIES. To Motor Cyclist. FIKE AFTEK COLLISION. ( Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. Jun- 25. George Jonathan Pine, aged 19 years, died in Christchurch Hospital at noon to-day as the result of terrible injuries received in a collision between a motor cycle he was riding and a motor truck on Riecarton Roa<j this morning. Pine was riding on a piece of road, bitumen-paved. facing the rays of the morning sun. As he was passing W. J. Bowman’s yard, a motor truck driveir by R. Giles, came out on to the road. The motor cycle hit the truck with a terrific erash. The motor cycle's petrol tank burs’, ami the petrol fired, enve’oping Pine, his motor cycle, and the bonnet of the truck in flames. Pine wa* dragged from the burning truck with his clothing afire, and was terribly burned. He was rushed to the hospital, but be lived only a few hours.
A (hemical extinguisher was effective in saving the truck from complete destruction. Pine was the son of the well-known horse trainer, George J. Pine. MOTOR TRAGEDY. SYDNEY. June 25. The police at Kogarah suburb have b ’en informed that a motor-car with a man and two women overshot the punt at Taren Point, George’s River, earlv yesterday morning and sank in deep water. Both the women are reported to be drowned. The man scrambled to safety. SYDNEY. June 25. The motor car which plungo'l into the water at Taren Point, as cabled to-day, contained six persons, four of whom were able to get ashore. Two girls.
