ROSS NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Our Own Correspondent. BOSS, March 27. The recent rains have been welcome*! hereabouts, after the very long dry spell, as the pastures have been renewMesdames H. Parker and O. Halin are at present visiting Christchurch on holidays. A serial evening was given recently by Mr S. P. Evans (Mayor) in honour c.f Mr R. Richards, who celebrated his 21st birthday. Those present in eluded Messrs:—R. and A. Parker. J. Shannon, R. N. Clark, J. Ableson, J. Bridgman, J. Pethjg, W. Blaeklow, W. Clark, A. Misseu, I). O’Sullivan, D. Head, F. and J. Houlahan and S. Upjohn. During the evening Miss Evans rendered several musical items, and songs were also sung by Messrs A. and R. Pyrker, W. Blaeklow, A. Missen, J. Bridgman and S. P. Evans. A recitation was given by Mr Clark and a stepdance by Mr Upjohn. During supper toasts were proposed by Mr Evans and other members of the company and were suitably replied to by Mr Richards and others. Altogether a very pleasant evening was spent, and after tiie toast of the host, terminated with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” A euchre and dance in aid of the Convent School Funds, was held here on Saturday night hist, and proved to be a Ij nan ci al as well as, a social success. Excellent music was rendered by Miss Evans’ Orchestra, and extras were supplied by Miss Parker. Football practice has been started here and the local team looks very promising for the coming season’s competitions. Many improvements have been going ahead here lately, and several of the. hotels are looking much better for a coat of paint. One would like to know if the Fire Brigade intends following the good example by painting the Station.
