QUEST FOR EL DORADO
FOUR CENTURIES AGO. RELICS FOUND TN CENTRAL AMERICA. (Received March 26 at 10 p.m.) MANAGUA (Nicaragua), March 26. The Georgian archaelogist, Mr Carters, has discovered what are believed to be the relics of the expedition conducted by Fernando De Soto in the year 1539. In that year Fernando De Soto, with a goodly company, set out from Tampa Bay, in search of El Dorado. In 1541 he discovered the Great Mississippi, and crossed over to the Washita River, but his companions were decimated by disease and by continual skirmishes with th? Indians, and all the clues to the source of the treasure proved elusive. In 1542, Fernando De Soto died of fever, and the disappointed remnant of his expedition eventually reached Mexico. The relics just dis-, covt red were found in an Indian mound. An item in it of principal interest is an iron sword.
