COURT NEWS.
YOUTHFUL BAG SNATCHERS. UHRISTCIIURUH. February 25. In the Magistrate’s Court. George William I’hillipson, 17, was charged with stealing a purse and contents, valued at 8s Bd. The Senior Sergeant said that accused and a younger boy had devised a great scheme for getting money. They were to go up behind a woman in the street, and one was to grab hold of her handbag, while the other cut the string with a pair of scissors. This scheme they put into effect.
Accused was ordered to be detained in the Borstal institution at Invercargill for a term not exceeding two years.
The younger boy appeared in the Children’s Court, and was charged sini ilarly to Phillipson. He was commit ted to the care of the Child Welfare Officer.
SOLICITOR FINED £5O. AUCKLAND, February 24. At the Police Court, Selwyn Mays, solicitor, was fined fifty pounds for failing to have a trust account audited. ALLEGED INDECENCY. GISBORNE, February 24. A young man named Oliver Leonard Evensen, charged before Mr Levey, S.M., with atempted carnal knowledge of a girl of four ten years, committed for trial. The evidence was to the effect that the man showed the girl anatomical studies in a book, saying that she was old enough to know all that was in the hook. He had also showed her cer•jaln indecent articles.
