Spread Over Large Area LOSSES or STOCK REPORTED. DWELLINGS NARROWLY ESCAPE. PAHIATUA, February 21. Bush scrub fires started in the Puke" toi Rang s and spread to the Makuri Coomoor district. They swept over a wide strefch of country. Losses of stock are reported to have been suffered by D. McCarthy and Hansen Bros. The Makuri scenic reserve was also swept, also Hansen’s plantation Fire went over portion of the properties of Mr. Ryan, 11. Dillon, R. B. Ror>ertson, and T. Russell. There have been very narow escapes of dwellings and farm buildings. T. Ross, Coomoor, had a fire fighting party all night round his woolshed until it was saved. Mr. Rhodes’ house was also in danger.
