NEW BREWERY.

For Greymouth. PIPE LINE FROM OMOTO. The Greymouth Borough Council last evening received a. letter from the Westland Breweries Syndicate, requesting permission to lay a water pipe across certain streets of the borough. The letter stated that it was intended to lay a pipe Hue from a spring at Omoto to a site in Herbert Street, on which it *s proposed to erect a new brewery. Cr Kent proposed that a report on the application be obtained from the. Engineer. The Engineer stated lie could outline the route of the proposed line, which would come from a spring near the Omoto Brewery, along the railway line, crossing the road at the upper end of Alawhera Quay, going thence along the railway line and Whall Street, and thence along the railway reserve and across Albert Street and the railway line to the site in Herbert Street. Cr R. J. Williams ptopos'* 1 that the authority asked be accorded, provided that the syndicate made good any damage that the work might oc casion. Cr J. O’Brien said that they could have the line laid in accordance with the Engineer’s specifications. The Mayor (Mr J. W. Greenslade) said that a good idea might be to have a deposit made by the syndicate, as against any damage that might result. The Council should also be secured against liability for any damage that might bo caused to the line. At his suggestion, Cr Williams agreed to add to the motion that there be a covenant made in the matter. Cr Kent then seconded tla motion, which was carried, giving authority for the line on the conditions mentioned.
