CAR HIT BY TRAIN.

ESCAPES WITH TRIFLING DAMAGE. OCCUPANTS ESCAPE INJURY. CHRISTCHURCH, January 12. With hopes of reaching Springfield, and then trucking his car to Otira, Archie McAlpine set out -with two others from Christchurch about 5 a.m. A few minutes after 5 a.m. his car was disabled at Riccarton railway crossing. The car had almost cleared the rails when it was hit by the engine of a goods train, on t*he left rear wing. The impact swung the car round and made it face in the opposite direction to which it was going, and it halted in the channelling. The occupants ecsaped unhurt, and the car received trifling damage.
