LORRY DRIVER SUCCUMBS TO INJURY. CHRISTCHURCH, January 9. James Porter, who lived at Queen Street, Spreydon, died in the hospital this morning, following injuries received in an accident on Saturday night. Porter was driving a motor lorry towards the city. He swerved to avoid a. car, and the lorry struck a. post. Porter was admitted to the hospital unconscious, and died at. 2.30 a.m. Two other occupants of the lorry escaped serious injury. FOUND DEAD IN LUPINS. DUNEDIN, January 9i At the inquest on Georgina Waters, single, 35. found dead in the lupins at St. Hilda on Thursday last, medical evidence showed that the gullet was covered with inflammatory membrane showing the delicate lining had been destroyed by some liquid swallowed shortly before death. The Coroner said that no doubt the liquid had been self administered. He adjourned the inquest for an analysis of the stomach contents.

PORT NICHOLSON TRAGEDY. WELLINGTON, January 9. The body of David Lauder, who was drowned near Somes Island, when a fourteen foot yacht capsized, was recovered on Saturday afternoon. The body of the other victim, Mackay, has not yet been recovered. FOUND HANGING. NAPIER, January 9. A man at. present, unidentified was found hanging in a convenience on the Marine Parade yesterday morning, about 6.45 o’clock, the body being still warm and fully clothed. The man appeared to be 45 years of age, He is sft in height and medium build, hair light brown slightly tinged with grey, has small ginger moustache, and a beard of some three, days’ growth. He was wearing a brown tweed suit, striped shirt, lace-up boots, and grey cap. A basket of flowers was tattoed on his right, forearm.

MOTOR CYCLING MISHAPS. AUCKLAND, January 9. Frederick Edge, 34, porter at the Grand Hotel, died in the hospital through injuries caused by his motor cycle colliding with a telegraph pole on the new North Road. He was married, and resided at Mt. Albert. Adrien Greig, 20, sustained concussion of the brain by a fall from a motor cycle. His condition is fairly serious. T. Rogers, of Otahuhu, was thrown from a motor cycle while practising at a high speed on the Muriwai beach. He was removed to Auckland Hospital with concussion of the brain, and severe injuries to the body. CHINESE INJURED. WOODVILLE, January 9. At Kiritaki crossing on the main road near Dannevirke this morning, a motor lorry, driven by Jack Brighouse, collided with a White Star service car. The driver of the service car and Miss Markham, of Wellington, sitting in the front seat, were uninjured, but a Chinese in the back seat was thrown out. and is suffering from facial injuries. The service car was damaged, but the lorry was undamaged. Both wore travelling slowly.

FOUND DEAD ON ROAD. MASTERTON, January 9. John Colin Chambers, an employee of the Mauriceville County Council, was found lying dead on the road at Hastwell (near Mangamahoe) at midday on Sunday. It was found that Chambers’ neck was broken, and it is presumed that he was thrown from his horse. He was seen riding in the vicinity that morning. Deceased was 44 years of age, and leaves a widow and two children,
