GERMAN DESERTERS CAPTURED. AUCKLAND, January 9. Four of the seven German seamen who deserted from the German steamer Kerston Miles, on Saturday, were recaptured at Howick to-day. A search was carried out yesterday and to-day, and resulted in the men being found in some scrub, where they had spent last night. There is no trace of the other three. SAWMILL HAND KILLED. TAUMARUNUI, January 9. Frank Hynes, the victim of the accident at Ellis and Burn and’s mill at Mananui this morning, died in the hospital this afternoon. M.P.’s HOMESTEAD DESTROYED. GISBORNE, January 9|. The homestead at the Arowhana Station, an eleven-roomed dwelling, owned by Mr W. D. Lysnar, M.P., 40 miles from Gisborne, was destroyed by fire early this morning. Mr Lysnar and the housekeeper were both roused from their sleep, and escaped hurriedly, managing to save a few personal effects only.
