A motion of condolence was passed to Air L. B. Miller, at the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday, expressing sympathy concerning his recent bereavement. A London cable states that the King has Invested the Duke of York’s Political {Secretary, Harry Butterbee, with the Knight Commander Victorian Order. Air P. Wet nink, who has been caretaker of the Grey Main {School for a number of years, has tendered his resignation to the Committee. Messrs H. F. Doogan and A. Perotti leave for Wellington or. Tuesday, to attend the annual Racing Conference, which takes place the following day. Air C. A. Alarris, formerly editor of the New Zealand Times, has been appointed editor of the New Zealand Referee. Among recent arrivals staying at Bevington’s are: Messrs S. Alartin, B. Taylor (Christchurch), 11. Liviek (Nelson), Harding (Auckland), Air and Mrs Fleming (Sydney). The funeral of Nancy, the infant daughter of Air ‘ami Airs S. Stewart, of Coal Creek, took place yesterday at the Karoro Cemetery. The service was conducted by Archdeacon Carr. The funeral took place yesterday ■afternoon of Air John Savage, of Afatai, the interment being made at the Karoro Cemetery. The Rev’ G. Barker (Ahaura) officiated at the graveside. Guests staying at the Albion Hotel include: Alessrs F. Coates, AlcFaddin, R. Duncan, A. Reppier, W. Mussen (Christchurch), 11. J. Fetch (Dunedin), C. Coss (Wellington). The death occurred yesterday after--1 noon, at the Public Hospital, of Airs Martha Toohey, aged 34 years. The deceased lady was the daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Brown, of Arney Street. She leaves two children. Her husband met his death accidentally in Greymouth about two years ago. Miss J. Lynch, who is about to be married, was on Wednesday presented with a sea grass chair and cushion, by the staff of Bevington’s Hotel. Miss Forsyth was later entertained at the residence of Aliss Al. Anderson, Puketahi Street, where a very pleasant afternoon was spent, with musical items and dancing.
