It is announced that the marriage of Bridget Nora, second daughter of Mrs M. Thornton, to Loftus, fourth son ?f Mrs K. Me Vicar, Blackwater, will take place at St. Patrick’s Church, Greymouth, on Tuesday next. The guests staying at the Albion Hotel include Messrs H. Berentson (Palmerston North/ F. G. Robbins, C. L. Green, H. G. Wylie, A. Brandt, At kinson, A. L. Gray, L. H. Biss, F. Coates, Miss Buckley (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs J. Stevens (Auckland). The death took place at Reefton yesterday morning of Mrs Howard, widow of the late Mr Frank Howard. The deceased lady is survived by her three sisters, Alesdames Hussey, Hickey and Beban, and two brothers, Messrs J. and P. Slattery. Three children are

Many of the older generation of turf followers on the West Coast will regret to learn of the death of Alt Charles Stratford. a noted horseman, who in the las- two decades of the last century wr- a familiar figure on local courses. Air Stratford, who was close on 60 years of age, passed away on Tuesday at the Christchurch Hospital, which he entered a few weeks ago. He leave' a wife and grown-up family. Latterly he had been in the employ of Messrs Cutts Bros., the Canterbury traint rs. at Riccarton. He used to be at uo time the rider for Mr Mat Walker, of Reefton, and also schooled for him the horses Speculator, Paladin, Quiltire, and others.
