RUGBY FOOTBALL.

WEST COAST RUGBY UNION. EXECUTIVE” MEETING. The usual weekly meeting of the above Executive was held last evening, there being present Messrs A. A. Adams (chair), T. Mclntosh, T. Scott, 11. Steel, E. Dewar, A. White, T. Ryan, W. Hannam, B. Ryan, W. Ogilvie, J. Guy and N. W. Jones (secretary). An application was received from the Railway Football Club for permission to travel to Christchurch on July 2nd, together with the personnel oi the team, and advising Mr Payne would accompany the team as manager. It was resolved to give the necessary permission, and to advise the Canterbury Rugby Union accordingly. Advice Was received from the New Zealand Union re the intended tour of the Maori team of the minor Unions in both the North and South Islands, stating they would play a match at Greymouth on Saturday, August 6th. The letter intimated that the team would consist of 22 players and a manager, Mr A. Takarangi accompanying the team through the North Island, and Air Kingi Tahawi through the South Island.

A ruling was asked for by the Westland Sub-Union re a referee stopping the recent Ross v. Kanieri junior match four minutes before time on account of failing light. It was resolved to draw the Sub-Union’s attention to the “Amendments of Rules for 1927 Season,” just issued by the New Zealand Union, which states on this subject that “The referee has power to stop the game before time has expired, if, in his opinion, the full time cannot be played.”

It was resolved a letter be sent through the Referees’ Association, thanking Mr F. Baillie for turning out to referee at junior match at Gladstone at so short a notice. It was resolved to invite the Inangahua Rugby Sub-Union to play a match at Greymouth on 2nd July prior to selection of the West Coast team to play Buller at Westport on the following Saturday, and also to advise the Sub-Union that a match would be arranged for them providing it suited, on the return from Buller on 10th July. It was resolved that names of all players who had been reinstated to the code and who again reverted to League be posted to the New Zealand Union immediately, with a view of their taking action in the matter of permanent disqualification. The names so far handed in are: W. Page, A. Cairney and 11. M. Petrie. Referee’s reports on last Saturday’s matches were read and received as satisfactory. FIXTURES. The following are the fixtures for next Saturday:— Seniors.—United v. Kanieri at Park. A ground, at 3 p.m. (Mr A. Winchester, referee); Magpies v. Excelsiors at at 2.30 p.m. (Mr A. Fass referee). Juniors.—Cobden v. Kumara at Kumara, at 3 p.m. (Mr A. Walton referee); United v. Blaketown at Park, A ground, at 1.30 p.m. (Mr T. Mclntosh referee); Magpies v. “Stars at Park, B ground, at 3 p.m. (Mr I. Steel referee). Fourth Grade.—United A v. Combined at Cobden at 3 p.m. (Mr J Beaumont referee); United B v. Technical at Park, B ground, at 1.30 p.m. (Mr J. Cullen referee). Fifth Grade. —Blaketown v. Technical at Technical ground (if available, otherwise Cobden at 1.30 p.m.), Mr W. Williams referee.
