THEFT OF CAR.
BREWER CHARGED. — At Greymouth. The young man, George Huia Brew- ■ er, who on Monday afternoon was arrested in the vicinity of the Inangahua Junction, arrived in Greymouth by motor with a police escort yesterday morning. The car used for the journey was the Overland Whippet which disappeared from Mr. Cunningham’s garage at Taipo early on Saturday and which was found at Inangahua Junction on Monday. It belongs to Air. Stanley Grey at Taipo. The motor had suf f cried some damage up Inangahua way, the result it is understood of a couple of “spills,” the parts affected being the radiator, windscreen ami hood. The number plate had been altered by the excision of a figure, 3, making the num her read “83—97” instead of 83 —379.” It is stated Brewer on Sundav was a spectator at a football match at Cronadun, and had since arrival in Inangahua district made a couple of runs as far as Westport. This would explain the fact that the mileage register on the car showed an addition of about 433 miles since the motor left the Taipo on Saturday. Before Mr. A. Naylor, J.P., Brewer was yesterday charged with the theft of a motor cur valued at £230, the property of Stanley Gray, of Taipo.
