ACCIDENTS. HAMILTON, April 8. W. Brookes sustained a broken leg and injuries to an arm in a collision at Okauia, near Matamata, between his motor cycle and a motor lorry. Alfred Little, 32 years of age, a married man with five children, succumbed last night to injuries received through being run over by a drill when the horses he was working at Waitetuna got out of control. Tftti King: died at the Waikato Hospital this morning through burns sustained in the explosion of a tar boiler at Putaruru earlier in the week. DUNEDIN, April 8.
When a goods train from Balclutha was passing Green Island at 1.30 this morning, the axle .of a wagon broke, causing derailment of 11 trucks laden with coal and wood. A breakdown train arrived an hour later. Some of the wagons were badly damaged and the contents scattered all over the track. No one was injured. There is a double track to Mosgiel, :-o passenger services were not deranged. WELLINGTON MUNICIPAL FINANCE. WELLINGTON, April 7. The last meeting of the City Council was held to-night, when revised loan proposals amounting to £746,920 gross were considered, including: For special street works £138,060, waterworks and drainage £164,235, paving footpaths and streets £264,000, convemenees £26,875, libraries £87,500, reserves £66,250. The gross figures include 25 per cent, covering supervision and contingencies, first year s interest and cost of flotation. The Mayor foreshadowed a reduction of a penny all round in electric lighting, with a probable further reduction on the completion of the change over. The city trams showed a profit of £16,382 for the financial year ended March 31, and the buses a loss of £9820. The trams carried 43 million people.
