N.S.W. COAL STOPPAGE.

MINERS DIVIDED. On Strike Issue. SYDNEY-, February 15. Voting at the aggregate meetings of northern coal fields shows that the min ers are divided on the strike issue. At the most populous centres the proposals of tho Central Council for a strike were defeated; while a number of smaller Centres voted in favour. The press was rigidly excluded from all meetings. So far, not sufficient returns are to hand to indicate whether the Council’s proposals will be carried, but it is certain that tho issue will be closely contested. The aggregate meetings at most ot ■the larger mining districts in New South Wales rejected the Council's pro-posa-ls for a minimum weekly wage of £5/10/. a forty-four hours’ week, and an inquiry into, the economic aspect of the industry. Several of the sma'ler <jentr.es, agreed with the proposals. MELBOURNE, February 15. Mr. Bruce, in a statement,'said that the Federal Government would take no action in regard to rhe mining dispute, until the men returned to work.
