FIRE AT CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 8. A fire which originated in some shavings, caused severe damage to the propertv of Stanilaml, Ltd., salt, spice, and coffee merchants, Moorhouse Avenue, yesterday afternoon. The machinery was damaged, the salt, gram, and other produce were destroyed by fire and water, and the premises were gutted, involving a serious loss. The brigade experienced a difficult task in keeping the flames from spreading to the adjacent properties. The insurances on the stock and machinery total £3lOO, ami the building is insured for £5OO, both policies being with the Southern Union Office,
