Two cans of cream, indention] i; age and flavour, were consigned to a creamery by a dairy farmer recently. Being greatly surprised that the contents of one can should be graded first-class and the other second-class, he complained to the manager, and received in reply the following letter, which he considers a gem: “Tin cream you take exception to was graded by the company’s head grader in conjunction with our own grader. So you can be assured you have received a square deal . Evidently sonic harmful bacteria had found their way into one of your cans It has been niy experience to have had butter graded first and second out of one cream vat. Other lands, other manners’ A re-cently-quoted paragraph from an American paper .showed the difficulties which beset the Chicago police in trying to Induce women and girls to obey the traffic by-laws. In numerous instances it was said that flappers, ana even mature women, threatened to smack the faces of the police officers who tried to regulate pavement traffic Apparently there were n<> arrests. Perhaps no constable dared, and it he had it is possible no magistrate would dare to punish. In Queen Street, Auckland, recently three “flappers” were conversing animatedly in the centre of the footpath, and a passing constable asked them to move over to its edge. They tossed their chins just a trifle, and moved about eighteen inches. After going about six yards the policeman looked back. His jaw set, he made about two steps towards the girls—and the speed with which they completed tnc rest of their journey would have beat en either Limerick or Windbag bylengths.
