POULTRY SHOW.

INCREASE IN EXHIBITS. With' an increased number of exhibits and more of the local breeders participating, Greymouth has reason to congratulate itself upon its poultry show this year, the third since the Poultry, Pigeon. Canary and Cat Chib came into existence. The exhibition was opened yesterday by the Mayor, Mr AV*. IL Parfitt, who congratulated the Club upon the fine exhibition of birds and the number of entries, a record since its re-organisation. This, he said, was an indication of the lively interest taken in poultry matters by the local people. He extended a welcome to Mr C. Cussens, the Government Poultry Expert and to Mr F. Dacre, of Christchurch, the veteran judge in the poultry, pigeon and canary sections.

Speaking with an “Argus’* reporter on the quality of the exhibition, Mr Dacre said he thought Greymouth was to be congratulated upon the increase of entries, about 40, on last year and also the increase in entries from local exhibitors. This showed that the poultry industry was improving on the Coast. The quality of the winning birds in nearly all the sections was as good as he had seen in the other shows. The two sections of the utility classes were a feature of the Show’ both in the number of entries and the quality. Commenting on the Silver Wyandotte pullet of Air A. W. V. Clark of Rangiora, which had secured the special prize for the best bird in the Show, Mr Dacre said that the bird was one of the best seen out. this season. Of the setting out of the exhibits, Mr Dacre said that the committee were to be congratulated upon the completeness of tlie staging and management displayed. Tlie Show’ will be continued to-day. The judging of the cats will take place this morning. The following are Bic awards: — OPEN CLASS. Old English Game:—Black Breasted Black Red (cock)—F. A. Lynch 1, 11. fur till 2. Part rid g j hen—C.
