PREFERENCE CLAUSE. Employers’ Query. GISBORNE, March 29. Owing to the indisposition of Mr \\ . Scott, the. employers’ representative on the Arbitration t'ourt, the Court adjourned to-day till this evening, but at night, Mr Scott was still unable ti be present. The Court sat in the evening, when it was asked to decide as to an applica lion by the Gisborne employers, througl the Inspector of Factories, for an in terpretation of the preference clause h the Drivers’ Award. The question wa; —“ls an employer bound to dismis; from his service a youth, a non-union ist, when requested to do so by th< Union, provided there is a member o* the Union, either a youth or an adult qualified for that particular work?” After argument had been heard, the Court reserved its decision.
