ASSAULT AND ROBBERY.

THREE MAORIS ARRESTED. GISBORNE, March 29? About eleven o’clock on Saturday night, Albert Edward Orange, saddler, Kuatoria, was called from his bed bs a Maori, who said he had a saddle to repair. He gave Orange a saddle, and then said he had some more saddles round the corner. Ho went, away and camo back with two masked Maoris, one of whom was armed with a double barrelled gun. The tlireo natives rushed at Orange and violently assaulted him. When Orange recovered, ho found he had been robbed. Ho reported the occurrence to the police. Yesterday afternoon Inspector Ecclcs and two constables went to Whenuakura pa, and there arrested three- natives on a charge of assaulting Orange. A shotgun and saddle arc now in the hands of the police. Orange was badly knocked about.
